Movie Review: 'The Dictator' Is Likeable – Johns Creek, GA Patch

From the guy who brought us Ali G and Borat comes a new character named General Aladeen ? a ruthless dictator from a fictional country in North Africa who is part buffoon, horn dog and ruthless bloodthirsty ruler in “The Dictator.”

Through a ridiculous set of circumstances, that I will spare you the details because they are so contrived, Aladeen ends up in New York while his even sillier double is in charge of his country.

There are plenty of cameo appearances from big stars to keep things interesting. As for the element of political satire we get a pretty heavy-handed lecture that borders on being a bit corny. “The Dictator,” ?like so many other characters by Cohen, is offensive but somehow there is a certain likeability to him.

“The Dictator” is one tasteless gag after another ? from playing the Munich Olympic games on Wii to having a massive misunderstanding of 9-11; there is plenty to choose from. The extended birthing scene, however, lowers the bar in shock humor; that was really bad. That all being noted, it’s still pretty funny, if you like this kind of thing.

The Flick-O-Meter gives “The Dictator” a three out of five. It is kind of like watching a live-action cartoon. And if you look at it from that perspective, it’s not so bad.

Get social, we are on Facebook; go to TheBrettSide and click Like.

“The Dictator” opens this weekend at Regal Cinemas Medlock in Johns Creek.

Home Improvement: Increase The Value Of Your Home | welcome to …

Home improvement jobs are more extensive than only putting in a new floor. In order to get your home just right, you have to plan ahead and do research on your projects. You can become better at making home improvements by following these tips. Home improvement projects can turn your house into the home you have always dreamed of, and can save you money through added efficiency. Don?t be intimidated; you really can master DIY projects!

Consider placing a heating source under tiled floors because it is cheap and simple to add. If you are going to replace your floor, think about getting tile and inquire about radiant heat. The sales person will be able to guide you on which type of flooring should be used as well as the options available for radiant heating. This can also improve your home?s value significantly.

Consider making your work area more effective and organised, by utilizing coiled cords in the place of normal straight cables and cords. I prefer to use electrical extension coiled cords simply because they remain organized better and usually do not get tangled up like regular cords. Stallion Supreme air brake coils expand and contract as necessary which makes them a a lot more organized and tidy option whenever you want to utilize truck electrical coiled cords. You are going to spend much less time untangling cords, which not only will offer you a lot more time to do the job, but will keep your anxiety levels low! Philatron Wire and Cable is one of several cable manufacturers in USA who produces these types of coiled cables.

Try a straight wall-mounted coat rack for a bracelet and necklace display. Use it just for costume jewelry, not expensive pieces. Jewelry that is displayed nicely can be a lovely decorative touch to any room. This method has the added benefit of keeping your pieces free from tangles and knots. Keep your most used pieced within easy grasp.

If you want to save money on heating this winter, it?s time to re-caulk your windows. This prevents moisture from seeping in and causing mold growth, and it keeps drafts out, which can lower your heating bills. Remove old and cracked caulk with a chisel before applying fresh caulk.

For larger jobs, hire a skilled and experienced worker. Designers, contractors and architects all work at their occupations for a variety of reasons. Major home repairs are better handled by these professionals. Don?t go it alone. Get the help of a professional on large home improvement jobs to avoid the hassle and expense of ?do-overs.?.

Considering a home improvement project? Start by looking at what you own now for new ways to showcase your personality. Use interesting frames to match your decor.

If you live in a supportive community, think about putting some money together and investing in a community toolbox. Instead of purchasing costly specialized tools for single usage, borrow esoteric equipment from your neighbor who also loves home improvement projects. You can even ask your neighbor for tips.

An easy way to improve your home is by getting a new mailbox. A new mailbox will add improved curb appeal to your home. Do check your local regulations on required distance from the road so that you do not have to take it down later. You can do this job fairly quickly.

You can avoid damage to your house?s foundation by directing rainwater away from the house. You can give a small incline to your or you can make the downspout release the water far from your home.

Use accent paint or attractive wallpaper to distinguish alcoves or niches that have been built in. If the area is very small, a single pint of paint may be sufficient.

If you?re taking on a large project, hire a reputable professional. Architects, designers, and contractors are skilled and that is why they do their jobs. Skilled professionals will be able to ensure that the job is done correctly. While doing it yourself can sound appealing, a professional will make your life better and get the job done right.

Now that you are armed with a few solid tips to guide you, making a sound decision regarding home improvement should seem less daunting. Remember, quality home improvements to your home will not only allow you to have a more desirable space but will also improve the overall value of your home.

Right Turn without Signaling: A Bad Word

Last night, I had a conversation with a friend that went like this:

Her: “….and then she made it clear, I don’t want a relationship with you. I just want to be playmates.”

Me: “She does know that playmates are a defined relationship right?”

Her: “I know….but geesh, did she think I wanted to keep her forever just because I played with her?? ?Plus, what does that mean ‘relationship’?? “

Then I dragged out my imaginary soap box……about relationships.

Every interaction we have with every human being in this world is a relationship.

Too overly generalistic for you? ?(Yes, I made up that word – it should be a word.)

My point is ?that boundaries are what make a relationship. ?For example, what makes my relationship with my 12 year old different than my relationship with a friend? ?Topics of conversation, power dynamic, ability to ground the child but not the friend, etc. ?These boundaries define each relationship. ?In the one I have with my daughter, I call that being a parent. ?I love her. I guide her. I verbally whack her across the head when she needs it. ? With my friend, it is called friendship. ?While I may provide some of those same things to a friend, I also speak more freely. ?She?reciprocates. ?I can love a friend.

It is what we NAME the relationship and the BOUNDARIES that define a relationship – not the term “relationship”.

Why the soap box rant?

Relationships are not bad. They are not things to be avoided. Hell, I would argue that they are unavoidable unless you chose to totally stop interacting with people, but then that would be how you define your relationship with people – thus proving my point.

I get overly annoyed with people who also look at women in the scene or in swinging – and assume if there is a friendship and fucking that the woman must want more. ?Cause while it may be good, a good fuck is not a romantic relationship or a seriously involved relationship. ?It is merely a moment in time when both parties chose to get naked and fuck. ?That is fucking.

And as a woman, I can fuck you and leave you. ?I can and I have. ?I like sex. I know how to get sex. ?And I have fucked people I’ve never heard from again. Even those I’ve fucked repeatedly, I have not wanted as a boyfriend. ?I liked fucking them. ?That was the relationship I wanted.

That all being said, I do believe it is important to name a relationship. ?You want everyone on the same page – than give it an accurate name. ?We have X. ?We have Y. ?Whatever ?it is, just give it a fucking name.

Same friend has a guy in her life that is great with boundaries but his boundaries do not match his actions as defined by their boundaries and name. ?Actions = Words. ?If they do not match, this will cause problems. ?It is simple math.

Let me put it a different way. ?You are hired for a job. Your job is to fix computers. ?Great. ?It is what you believe it is. ?It is what you are told by your boss it is. ?Until you realize one day that you are also answering phones and making your boss coffee and order the office supplies. ?Not fixing computers. ? Why are you unhappy? The name of your job doesn’t match what is actually happening. ?If your boss disagreed and said – but I want you to fix computers. That is your title. ?That is what you are supposed to do because of it – yet, your boss only gives you work that is administrative in nature. ?You are going to get frustrated. You are going to get annoyed. ?You are going to be unhappy.

It works the same way in relationships of any sort. ?Exactly the same way.

To recap:

  • All human interactions are relationships of some sort.
  • Relationships are not bad.
  • Actions must equal the Words meaning the name must match what is happening.
  • Oh, and women can fuck and not want anything more out of the relationship.

Thank you for listening.

Beverly Hills Immigration Law: White House Official Urges GOP …

CQ (Article by David Harrison): White House Domestic Policy Council Director Cecilia Mu?oz delivered a robust defense of the Obama administrations immigration policy Tuesday and blasted Republicans for what she called their refusal to negotiate over the issue. But Mu?oz also said the administration would entertain any proposal from the GOP side with few preconditions.

In particular, Mu?oz spoke positively about Sen. Marco Rubio’s attempts to write a bill granting legal status to young undocumented people. The Florida Republican is working on an alternative to the Democratic-sponsored DREAM Act that would legalize young people brought to the country illegally as children if they enroll in college or join the military.

“The DREAM Act is an administration priority, and we note with interest the conversation about a possible alternative being developed by a single Republican senator,” Mu?oz said at a forum organized by the Brookings Institution’s Hamilton Project, “We are listening and our door remains open to any serious partner willing to walk through it.”

Rubio’s proposal has been cautiously welcomed by groups representing young undocumented people even though it would not offer them a path to citizenship, a cornerstone of the Democratic legislation (S 952, HR 1842).

Democrats, meanwhile, have struggled for a response. In an April interview with Telemundo, Obama decried the hypocrisy of Republicans trying to simultaneously appeal to conservatives while also paying lip service to the plight of young people living here illegally through no fault of their own.

Likewise, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., has said he remains committed to granting citizenship to students eligible for the DREAM Act.

But other Democrats, such as Senate Majority Whip Richard J. Durbin of Illinois, a longtime immigration advocate, have been more receptive.

Mu?oz’s statement suggests that the administration may be ready to offer an olive branch to Rubio, who has accused the White House of trying to sabotage his efforts. But Rubio has yet to introduce a bill and any early rapprochement could easily collapse once the details of his proposal are made public.

Criticism of GOP

Mu?oz said that Republicans so far have not stepped forward on immigration, even though Obama met with the GOP caucus to discuss the issue and even though the White House has drafted legislative language at the request of lawmakers,

“The prevailing philosophy on the other side of the aisle is grounded in the notion that we should aggressively remove as many people as possible and pass laws aimed at making life so miserable for the remaining immigrants and their families that they will deport themselves,” she said, referring to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s contention that laws should promote the self-deportation of illegal immigrants.

“This isn’t even a remotely credible strategy, and it comes at an incredibly high price,” Mu?oz said.

“Any proposal should emphasize legal immigration, help the country economically be both effective and humane, and make it possible for immigrants to achieve full integration,” she said. Significantly, she did not mention granting citizenship as a precondition.

Obama has been under pressure throughout his presidency to deliver on a campaign promise to overhaul the country’s immigration laws. Hispanic groups, who will play a key role in this years election, have grown impatient with the president and have urged him to do more administratively in the absence of legislative action.

In response, the White House has rolled out a new deportation policy, prioritizing prosecution for those who commit serious crimes while in the country and granting a reprieve to undocumented people with jobs and family ties in the United States. The administration is also working on rewriting rules that force families to live apart for years while awaiting a visa.

At the same time, the administration has also significantly beefed up law enforcement capabilities at the border as well as its immigration enforcement within the country, in part to pacify critics who accuse Obama of neglecting border security. Last year, the government deported almost 400,000 people, a record. Mu?oz warned advocates that until Congress acts, the administration must continue to aggressively prosecute people here illegally even as it tries to target lawbreakers for deportation.

“For those who believe it is a travesty of justice to ever separate a parent from a child, I can say that even the imposition of rational priorities to immigration enforcement will be insufficient to prevent these tragedies from occurring,” she said. “These are both symptoms of a broken system.”

LaCie 2big NAS Delivers 100MB/s For Enhanced Business …

(PRWEB) May 15, 2012

Today LaCie announced a new 2-bay network-attached storage solution (NAS) that delivers the ideal combination of speed and security for small businesses ? the LaCie 2big NAS, design by Neil Poulton. Powered by a 2GHz processor and improved file system, the 2big NAS delivers speeds up to 100MB/s, ensuring employees can share files from any PC, Mac, or Linux workstation.

?According to data from Research and Markets, network storage is growing in excess of 30 percent annually, increasing the demands placed on network storage devices,? said Erwan Girard, Professional Business Unit Manager at LaCie. ?The LaCie 2big NAS was developed to scale with the needs of SOHO users, delivering fast file sharing and data security, the two most critical factors for a small business.?

Fast Collaboration
In a data-dependent world, small offices can?t afford delays in workflow. The 2big NAS supports non-stop data accessibility and collaboration thanks to its 2GHz processor and LaCie NAS OS 2 software. It delivers enough storage capacity and bandwidth to back up multiple workstations, share large files and work on projects concurrently.

Formidable Data Security
Because data multiplies by the second, office administrators and IT professionals must ensure all digital assets are backed up and secure. The LaCie 2big NAS offers multiple levels of security including RAID 1 for data mirroring. Coupled with its hot-swappable drives, a failed disk can be replaced with no interruption, no data loss and without needing to turn off the device.

The LaCie 2big NAS ensures a complete backup of any Linux, PC or Mac workstation. Choose from the popular Time Machine and Windows 7 Backup software, or the included LaCie backup software. Consistent automatic backup means users can restore lost files instantly.

What?s more, LaCie?s NAS OS 2 dashboard makes it easy for businesses to back up the 2big NAS automatically, for added data security and peace of mind. Wizards with presets make advanced tasks such as RAID management, users management and NAS-to-NAS backups easy. No IT degree required. With just a few clicks users can back up the 2big NAS onto a direct-attached external hard drive, or schedule a nightly backup onto a NAS in a different location.

Remote Accessibility
Complementary to fast file sharing and data security is instant access to your data. The 2big NAS allows employees to access important files anywhere where there is an Internet connection. They can even download the free iOS app ? LaCie MyNAS ? to access files from an iPhone or iPad.

Energy Savings
The LaCie 2big NAS saves businesses money by allowing full control of its energy usage. Users can schedule shutdown and restart during optimal business hours to boost efficiency. Plus, the LaCie 2big NAS is now ten times more energy efficient when in deep sleep mode. And, thanks to the wake-on-LAN protocol, users can access the 2big NAS from deep sleep without being next to the system.

Availability
The LaCie 2big NAS is available in 0TB and 6TB capacities through the LaCie Online Store, LaCie PROgram+ Partners and LaCie PROgram+ Resellers starting at $299.00. For more product information, visit http://www.lacie.com.

Former Mexico defense minister probed over drug links

Agencia el Universal / GDA via AP

President Felipe Calderon named Tomas Angeles Dauahare deputy defense minister upon taking office in December 2006.

By msnbc.com staff and news services

Two Mexican generals, including the former deputy minister of defense who helped lead the escalation of the country’s war against drug gangs, are being investigated for ties to the drug trade, according to local reports on Wednesday.

Mexican soldiers on Tuesday detained Tomas Angeles Dauahare, who served as the army’s second in command until he retired in 2008, and Roberto Dawe Gonzalez, who led an elite unit in the state of Colima, and turned them over for questioning to the country’s organized crime unit, officials told Reuters.

Violence, including the discovery of 49 mutilated bodies near the U.S. border, is reaching new levels in the ongoing drug war in Mexico. NBC’s Mark Potter reports.

“The generals are making a statement because they are allegedly tied to organized crime activities,” the official at the attorney general’s office told the news service on condition of anonymity.

President Felipe Calderon named Dauahare as deputy defense minister upon taking office in December 2006, and the general retired in March 2008, according to a military spokesman, who said no arrest warrant had been issued for the two generals and said they were only being questioned at this point.?

Mexico’s drug war: No sign of ‘light at the end of the tunnel’

Dauahare, who once was considered a potential minister of defense, left the military in “through the back door” in 2008 under a veil of secrecy,?according to?Spanish-language news agency EFE?(Link in Spanish).?Francisco Armando Meza replaced?Dauahare, according to Mexican newspaper Cronica (Link in Spanish).

EFE reported that in January, 2008, Dauahare said in a speech that groups of criminals had been recruiting members of the army and air force, in particular deserters.?

Desertion, he said at the time, “has always happened. It has increased as of this decade, with workload, absence from home, wages, contributing to the phenomenon,” EFE reported.?

Calderon has staked his reputation on bringing Mexico’s drug gangs to heel, sending in the army out to fight them at the beginning of his term.?

Jorge Castaneda, former Mexican foreign minister and NBC News Latin America policy expert, talks about the latest developments in Mexico’s drug war where this week 49 mutilated bodies were found near the U.S. border.

Violence has spiraled since then and around 55,000 people have fallen victim to the conflict, eroding support for Calderon’s conservative National Action Party (PAN), which looks likely to lose power in presidential elections on July 1.?

On Tuesday, a former Mexican law enforcement official who worked closely with U.S. authorities in the drug war pleaded guilty in federal court in San Diego to aiding members of a violent Tijuana-based cartel, including helping traffickers get away with a double homicide in 2010.

18 beheaded bodies found near popular Mexico tourist site

Jesus Quinonez was convicted of participating in a federal racketeering conspiracy and could face a maximum sentence of life in prison.

In his plea, Quinonez admitted sharing confidential information with the Fernando Sanchez Arellano drug gang while he worked as an international liaison for the Baja California state attorney general’s office.

He is the highest-ranking of four former or current Baja California law enforcement officials arrested in the case and was a primary contact in Baja for U.S. law enforcement agencies.?

A total of 43 defendants were named in the federal racketeering complaint alleging murder, kidnapping and other crimes. Four are still fugitives, and one is awaiting trial. About half of those arrested are U.S. citizens, U.S. Assistant Attorney James Melendres said.?

Msnbc.com?s F. Brinley Bruton, Reuters and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Google launches Knowledge Graph today, wants to understand real things

Americans and Brits might chuckle at their respective understandings of words like chips, pants and biscuits — a search engine, however, can’t be quite so discerning. As it turns out, Google actually thinks it can, and has been working on its Knowledge Graph project to prove it. Beginning today, English searches from Google.com might start seeing a new box appearing alongside (unless you happened to see it via the live-trial). If there is more than one potential meaning to your search term, Google will ask you to specify (trousers, not underwear, for example). Likewise, when it’s more confident it knows what you mean, you’ll get a summary box instead. (A celebrities place of birth, favorite cheese etc..)

Google’s Shashidhar Thakur, tech lead for search, told us “We think of this as our pragmatic approach to semantic search.” And by pragmatic, he means that for the last two years, Google has been working to map the “Universe of things,” not just webpages. Over 500 million things, in fact, creating a total of 3.5 billion attributes and connections so far. The hope is, that as this technology evolves, you’ll be able to ask more complex questions, like “Which US airports have a Cinnabon stall.” Or, you know, other such deep and meaningful queries. If you see some info, and happen to know better, there’s a feedback system, so you can let Google know, hopefully making Knowledge Graph continually evolve in accuracy. While it’s only rolling out for English searches, it’s not just desktop, with mobile and tablet search getting the goods too. There are plans to spread this out to other languages, but no specific dates for this just now.
